CLIENT OBJECTIVES
The client’s goal was to integrate harness racing at The Meadows Racetrack with stateof- the-art electrical systems in the gaming facility. To meet the client’s expectations, Scalise’s team installed new electrical systems that offered a more updated and reliable power source, increased energy independence, and created a pleasant, satisfying atmosphere for all staff and guests.
SOLUTIONS
Scalise Industries’ scope of work consisted of electrical upgrades to the gaming facility. A complete power distribution system, starting at 27,00 kV, subsequently reduced to 4.16 kV, and ultimately 480 V and 120/208 V systems, was installed to reduce overall electrical consumption. In addition, four 750 KW paralleled emergency generators integrated with incoming service, providing stand-by power for the entire facility, was incorporated into the structure. The team installed an in-floor Cellular Raceway system that aids in the power distribution for the slot machines, along with integrating thousands of feet of LED, neon, and decorative lighting throughout facility. With these installations, the client will experience a return on their investment through improved, updated electrical systems and reduced energy costs.
BACKGROUND
The Meadows Racetrack opened in June of 1963 and was the first pari-mutuel horse racing track in Western Pennsylvania. Later, in 2010, the casino addition was added and unveiled to the general public. The 350,000 square-foot casino features a covered grandstand area overlooking the racetrack, with a separate entrance at track level that leads to a simulcast area and wagering lobby. There are three dining facilities and a centrally located lounge and bar with panoramic views of both the gaming floor and the racetrack.
